Former NASCAR driver and current regional series team owner Eric McClure was arrested Sunday on a Class 1 misdemeanor charge of assault and battery, according to the clerk’s office of the Smyth County (Va.) Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.

McClure, 39, was released on an unsecured bond of $2,500, after being arrested at his home by the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office following an altercation between husband and wife, according to an affidavit filed with the court clerk. His arraignment is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 21.

McClure made 288 career starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series from 2003-16 with a career-best of eighth in the 2013 season-opening race at Daytona. He had a series of concussions and also had a lengthy bout with the Epstein-Barr Virus during his career.

He co-owns a race team that competes in NASCAR’s regional series.

NASCAR had no immediate comment on his arrest, which could result in a suspension.
